+ How can Dr. Reece and Dr. Jouett help me overcome my dental fear?

Dr. Reece and Dr. Jouett are certified in oral conscious sedation administration through the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS). An estimated 50 percent of the population avoids dental work because of fear. Dr. Reece and Dr. Jouett understand this very real and debilitating condition, known as dental phobia. Some patients experience only mild fear, while others suffer with extreme anxiety about dental visits. If you suffer with dental phobia, call our office in Bryan/College Station to discuss oral conscious sedation. Read FAQs about oral conscious sedation here. Learn about conscious oral sedation here.

+ How are Dental Implants different from Dentures, Partials, or Bridgework?

Dental implants are tiny titanium screws implanted into the jaw to hold esthetic crowns. They closely imitate natural tooth structure, so dental implants can last a lifetime! Read FAQs about dental implants here. Learn about dental implants in our library.

+ What can be done if my teeth are discolored, rotated, or missing?

Using the latest advancements in dental technology, we now have options and opportunities at our disposal that never even existed. Newer, faster, stronger, more effective alternatives to traditional style dentistry, allow patients the option to never be inconvenienced or hindered by anything directly related to a smile. Whitening alternatives for an instantly brighter smile, eliminates stain and discoloration from chemical and physical elements. Bonded, strength enhancing, porcelain restorations, that can achieve the appearance and characteristics of perfectly straight and contoured teeth. State of the art materials and modalities of treatment such as bridges and implants, allow you the luxury of never having to live without teeth. A full complementing set of teeth not only improves self esteem, it improves the overall health and longevity by eliminating undue stress and forces from being placed on the remaining teeth.

+ How do I know if my dentist is an aesthetic dentist?

It is virtually impossible to know unless you can see the results and criteria for yourself. Look at the credentials, educational background, and actual work performed by the dentist. Aesthetic dentistry is much more than making teeth white or using the term cosmetic in an office description. Ask to see examples of before and after cases performed on actual patients and completed by the dentist. Talk with other patients the dentist has performed similar work on, and find out how their personal experience was and how the dentistry looks.

Aesthetic dentistry is much more complicated than appearance alone. It is comprehensive in nature, and is as much about what we can't see as it is what we can see. An aesthetic dentist is someone that can take the three-dimensional world we work in, bestow the artistry of a two-dimensional canvas painting, and alter the psyche and persona of an individual, all through the power of dentistry.

+ How much does cosmetic dentistry cost?

This is a broad question and the answer can vary as widely as the question "how much does a car cost?" The answer is that the price varies depending on the quality, design, and workmanship that you desire from the finished product as well as the care and attention that you receive along the way. Although sometimes inquiries are only about cost, that should not be the determining factor. Just as if you were selecting a brain surgeon, or even a restaurant or hotel for that matter, you wouldn't want to make your selection based on price alone.

Ask yourself: What is my smile worth to me? How does it make me feel? How will a gorgeous new smile change my life? Like all purchases, cost is relative to value. To some, a luxury vehicle is expensive, but to others, it's a great value. No two patients are alike and here, treatment is tailored to the individual wants and needs of the patient. The cost of our cosmetic procedures for any one patient can range from as little as a few hundred dollars to thousands. That's because cosmetic procedures can run the gamut from entry-level procedures such as teeth whitening to complex full-mouth restoration. There is no cookie-cutter approach to cosmetic dentistry. Each patient should have the benefit of a prescribed treatment plan best suited to bring about their individually customized, beautiful smile.

The cost of Cosmetic Dentistry could vary from several hundred dollars up to tens of thousands of dollars. All depending on your specific needs and desires. Each cosmetic dentistry case must be evaluated on a case by case and a thorough examination and evaluation of your condition and conditions and why your teeth look the way they do must be considered prior to any estimates being given to you.

+ What is Full Mouth Rehabilitation?

Full mouth rehabilitation is by far the most life changing process we are capable of performing. It involves restoring the teeth, the occlusion (bite), the muscles, the self-confidence, and the self-esteem back to a natural looking and youthful feeling condition. Full mouth rehabilitation can eliminate the variables that decrease the daily quality of life. Improve the level of satisfaction you have with your smile; eliminate the discomfort from chewing or temperature sensitive foods; improve the level of comfort experienced with sore jaw muscles and headaches, all by restoring your teeth to optimum level health and function.

+ How many visits will it take to change my smile?

"Smile Rejuvenation" is an incredible thing. Using the latest advancements in dental technology, we can now significantly alter the appearance of misaligned, discolored, and misshapen teeth in as little as two visits. The extents to which this can be performed, as well as the time frame depend of the severity of each individual case. Commonly referred to as "instant orthodontics," the option of aesthetic dentistry often supersedes that of traditional orthodontics due to the difference in time. The possibilities are absolutely amazing. Reserve your cosmetic consultation, and allow yourself the chance to see what changes can be made in just a few short weeks.

+ What is Neuromuscular Dentistry and can it help relieve headaches and jaw pain?

Neuromuscular dentistry is the science that evaluates and treats your overall oral health by considering how your muscles, teeth and joints all work together. It involves using the muscles and nerves to position the jaw into a physiologically balanced and functionally comfortable position. Using science and technology, we can determine if the muscles, nerves and jaw are in fact in harmony. Often times, when there is no balance and harmony within this system, the results are exacerbated and distributed throughout the body in the form of headaches, neck pain, and other related issues. The good news is that through the use of this technology, we can often diagnose and resolve the majority of the signs and symptoms that stem from this disharmony. Please see the section title TMJ disorder for more information.

+ What causes bad breath?

According to dental studies, about 85% of people with persistent bad breath (also known as halitosis) have a dental condition that is to blame. These conditions could be one or more of the following:

  • gum disease
  • cavities
  • poor oral hygiene
  • oral cancer
  • dry mouth (xerostomia)
  • bacteria on the tongue

If bad breath is the cause of a dental condition, mouthwash will only mask the odor and not cure it.

+ What is Periodontitis?

Periodontitis is the serious and advanced stage of gum disease which includes bone loss. Periodontitis is irreversible. The gum tissue and bone that surround and support your teeth could become seriously damaged and the teeth affected could become loose and fall out. Periodontitis occurs when the early stage of periodontal disease, gingivitis, is left untreated.

Periodontitis has also been linked to serious health problems such as an increased risk of stroke and heart attacks. Periodontitis could also cause higher blood sugar levels.

Some researchers have even suggested that gum disease can cause premature birth and low birth weight.

Poor oral hygiene is the most common cause of periodontitis. Brushing twice a day, flossing daily and regular check ups with your dentist are the best ways to prevent periodontitis.

+ What is Periodontal Antimicrobial Therapy?

Gum disease is known in dentistry as the "silent killer of teeth." Nearly 3 out of 4 adults in the continental United States suffers from periodontal disease, without any knowledge of the destruction. Often referred to as "silent" because there is seldom any pain or discomfort, this disease process is destructive enough to alter the quality of life as age progresses by infecting the teeth and surrounding tissues. As seen in the news, newly found research has liked periodontal disease to cardiovascular (heart) disease. Now more than ever, this disease process is making presence known and felt.

By using medicaments and chemical ablation, we are able to eliminate the offending bacteria that cause the rapid destruction of bone and gum tissue. Through the use of conservative, micro sonic antimicrobial periodontal therapy, our hygienists can interrupt the bacterial destruction by eliminating the diseased tissue and bacteria present in the gum pocket. By disinfecting the gum pocket and giving it a chance to heal through repeated and systematic use of periodontal therapy, the early to moderate stages of periodontal disease can be stopped and controlled in a comfortable, conservative manner.
