Cowboys Stadium

I am an accredited member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.  To become an accredited member, you have to present and defend 5 specific cosmetic cases and have all of them pass.  Because I am an accredited member, I was invited to speak to the members of the Texas Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

This meeting was held in Arlington at the new Cowboys Stadium.  Our meeting was held in the visitors locker room.  After the meeting, we all were taken on a tour of the brand new stadium.  This stadium belongs in the Guiness Book of World Records.  It is about the largest in the world in just about every category you can think of. I have heard about how magnificant this stadium is, but you have to see it to believe it!!

The playing field is 50 feet below street level.  When we were there, they were putting down a special artifical surface for a soccer game.  The stadium holds 80,000 fans and can be expanded to handle 100,000 people.  Not only can the roof be opened with the retractable doors, there are sliding glass doors (160 ft wide x 50 ft tall) on each end of the stadium that can be opened to let the fresh air in!!

The most striking thing is the indoor TV's that are suspended over the playing field.  These TV's are the largest in the world and cost over $40 million dollars.  (Contrast that with the original cost of Texas Stadium -- $35 million.)  The Jonas' Brothers wanted to play video games on them after their concert.  When told that it costs $4,000/hr for electrical costs, they said that they would take 2 hours!!

Most people do not realize how important it is to continue our education, as materials and technologies are changing all the time.  I probably average over 200 hours of continuing education every year to try to stay on the cutting edge of modern dentistry.  We had a good crowd at the meeting, and I hope that I was able to give them some pearls that they could use back in their own offices.
